The gaming industry is huge. Last year alone it raked in almost $19 billion, up about 50% from 2006. According to The Entertainment Merchants Association and the Digital Entertainment Group, DVD sales brought in about $16 billion. The gaming industry still hasn't passed the total movie industry, which includes the box office, DVD sales, and DVD rentals, as that brought in about $33 billion. However, it's still nice to see the gaming industry grow.

A "remastered" version of Chrono Trigger is coming to the Nintendo DS. The new version adds support for the DS stylus, a new dungeon, and wireless play. Chrono Trigger is one of the most beloved RPG's of all-time and was first released on the SNES in 1995.
A new MMO called Dragon Nest has been announced. It's being developed by Eyedentity Games. Eyedentity Games is a new company that employs veteran developers from companies such as NCsoft and Webzen. Dragon Nest sends players on a quest to find an antidote for a poisoned goddess in the land of Lagendia, which is overrun with dragons. In order to defeat the dragons, players must find ways to transform into dragons themselves. The game shoots for artistic visuals over top-of-line graphics and is scheduled for release in 2009.
In the latest post on Valve's new TF2 blog, Robin Walker confirms that the Heavy is next in line for weapon updates. What makes the post interesting, however, is how he lets players know what goes into creating new weapons for a class. Valve goes through the brainstorming process with goals and and constraints in mind. The problem with the Heavy is to make him more viable without a Medic, but a new weapon can't make him even more powerful with a Medic, can't take another class' role, and has to be user-friendly. Check out the new post to see if you can come up with some good ideas; Valve may even consider them if you post on their forums!
After many users reported problems with the latest firmware update for the PlayStation 3, version 2.40, Sony took the update offline. Sony is currently assessing the situation. Two ways to fix problems are to reformat the drive, which will erase all save game data, or to send the PS3 to Sony for a $150 repair. Once the update goes live again, it will support XMB in-game and a new trophy system, among other things.

PC Gamer recently dug up the dirt on Crysis: Warhead, Crytek's upcoming pc-exclusive sci-fi fps. The original Crysis was awarded the PC Gamer "Game of the Year" award for 2007 so it's only fitting that the series makes a return. However, Warhead is not a sequel to the original. For that matter, it's not a prequel either. Instead, Warhead will run parallel to the original Crysis.
Warhead follows the story of "Psycho" during his mysterious disappearance around the middle of the original Crysis. Few details have been released about the plot but Psycho will be a playable character and we will learn about his actions after leaving Nomad.
Other than that, you can expect Warhead to have a wider selection of weapons, be less linear, and feature a more intelligent AI than the original. What's most surprising is that it features lower system requirements than the original and can easily be played on most computers.

Tilted Mill, the developers of Children of the Nile, Caesar IV, and SimCity Societies, updated their home page to include a 9-day countdown with an image of a native girl. Not sure whether this is a Blizzard-esque countdown with a new teaser image each day but however they present it, something good is coming our way.
At first, I thought this might have something to do with the upcoming Enhanced Version of Children of the Nile but after some research, I found that many Tilted Mill forumers were thinking the native girl was a dryad, a mythical tree-like figure in Greek mythology. So perhaps there will be a Master of Olympus: Zeus 2?
